5. Pokemon X and Y

The focus of this game is catching Pokemon instead of battling them by aiming and throwing the Pokeball yourself. It’s also the first game where Pokemon would directly attack the player and you need to dodge during battle. These gameplay mechanics breathed fresh air into the franchise and revived some popularity to the games.
Pokemon Emerald was the last game of Gen 3 in the Hoenn region after Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. This is the first set of Pokemon games that had the incredibly vibrant colors and smooth animations. Personally, this is the most nostalgic for me because It’s the first Pokemon game I ever played but just because it’s my personal favorite, doesn’t mean it’s the best. Pokemon Crystal is the final version of the Gen 2 games, coming out after Pokemon Gold and Silver based in the Johto and Kanto regions. These became extremely popular at the time of release and are now very nostalgic for many fans. After Gen 1, these games added the first expansion of the Pokedex, the first new region, more balanced battles, and polish to gameplay overall. In previous games such as Sword and Shield, we got a real chance to dress up our trainer how we see fit and with Pokemon Legends Arceus, players were given even more creative freedom over how their character looks. Will this pattern continue with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Will Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have Character Customization?
Not much is known about character customization in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet just yet, but we’ve seen a glimpse of it in the latest trailer. From this screenshot, we can determine that there will definitely be trainer customization, but it might not be a huge catalog. We see that each player’s trainer has a different hairstyle, hat, shoes, backpacks, and more. As far as the uniform goes, we see two different styles. One is a formal shirt and tie with shorts. The other outfit style is the same shirt and tie with pants and suspenders. The color of your school uniform depends on which version of the game you have. With Pokemon Scarlet, you’ll have orange clothes and with Pokemon Violet, it’ll be purple. Fans are hoping that there are not only more outfit options but more colors to choose from. It’s a possibility that players are stuck with these two colors because the developers want you to feel like you belong the setting. We’ve seen a lot of screenshots and multiple trailers for this unreleased game which has given us some information about it. Something we’ve learned from these trailers is that we won’t hear the characters voices as they speak. Mainline Pokemon games have never had voice acting and it seems that pattern will continue with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Some fans have been asking for this feature for a long time and adding voice acting to an already developed world would likely make it even more convincing and engaging. So, why don’t they add it?
Why There’s No Voice Acting
It could come down to a stylistic choice. Since it’s never been a thing in previous games, maybe they want to keep it that way. On the other hand, a lot of things are changing in Pokemon games and fans seem to like it. So why not add voice acting too? It could be seen as a big risk for developers to add voice acting. If it’s not done correctly, immersion will be broken, and it’ll bring players out of the experience. It could sound weird just because players aren’t used to Pokemon games having this feature. If done properly, though, it could add another layer of immersion and enhance the experience by bringing more personality to the characters. Sadly, it seems like we’ll have to wait a while longer to hear trainers’ voices because Pokemon Scarlet and Violet won’t have voice acting.

The upcoming Gen 9 Pokemon game has been revealed to be released later this year on November 18th, 2022. So far, we’ve seen multiple trailers that gives us a glimpse at what to expect from these games. Some fans may not know but Pokemon Scarlet and Violet isn’t just one game, it’s split up into two games, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. This has been a tradition since the first Pokemon games, Red and Green. But what’s the difference between Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and which one is better?
Legendaries
The first and one of the most important differences when choosing which Pokemon game to buy is which Legendary Pokemon you’ll get. In Pokemon Scarlet, you’ll be able to catch Koraidon and in Pokemon Violet, you’ll get Miraidon. If you prefer one’s Legendary design over the other, you should probably get the game respective to which Legendary you’ll get.

Character Customization Colors
From what we’ve seen in trailers and screenshots so far, it seems like the character customization is quite limited to orange or purple colors. This is because our trainer is wearing their school uniform that matches the color they’re supposed to be wearing. If you’re playing Scarlet, you’ll have an orange uniform and backpack. If you have Pokemon Violet, you’ll get a purple outfit.
Time Theories
With the game not being released yet, there are theories about what other exclusives we’ll see in these games. One theory is that we’ll see more information about the region’s past in Pokemon Scarlet, while seeing more into the future in Pokemon Violet. This is based on the Legendary designs and other information fans have dug up through trailers. Koraidon looks more like a traditional dragon, while Miraidon has futuristic jet thrusters. This may not be the only place we see this theme continue. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

It’s been more than 20 years since we got the original Pokemon Snap on the Nintendo 64 and fans of Pokemon everywhere loved it. This Old Pokemon Snap game will be available to download on Switch after July 24th. According to the tweet, it may be exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack members only.
