Early Reviews of Pokemon Legends Arceus Are Already Better Than Previous Games

After all of the mysterious trailers and community hype, Pokemon Legends Arceus finally released and there’s already reviews detailing what critics think about the game. It’s safe to assume some of these reviewers got early access to the game as they’ve already explored most of the game, which takes a long time. That being said, these people know what they’re talking about and have developed an opinion overtime instead of making a quick review after just starting the game. There won’t be spoilers here but there are spoilers in many reviews, so I would advise not reading too deep into reviews before playing the game yourself.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

This Tweet above compiled review scores from various sources and it’s safe to say it’s being rated pretty highly. These scores are correlated to how this Pokemon game stands out compared to previous ones. From the massive map size to the amount of new features in this game, love it or hate it, GameFreak tried something new. This was a refreshing take on how a Pokemon game should function. We’re so used to the same old formula of Pokemon games but it was a time to step out of that comfort zone. This is evident with how the community treats Sword and Shield, I personally liked SwSh but many fans don’t agree because it felt stale and unadventurous to them. Hopefully Pokemon Legends Arceus will be the game to revive the series with how much it changes the game.

These high scores can also seem surprising when you consider how many complaints we saw from the Pokemon community when early trailers showed unpolished graphics and features we’re not used to. But most of that comes from trailers when the game wasn’t finished yet. Now that the game is out, you can clearly see the amount of work developers put into polishing the game. From the subtle animations, better lighting, and voluptuous foliage, there have been many improvements. There are, of course, games with better graphics out there but Legends Arceus has definitely improved since the first trailer released a year ago. This also isn’t to say there aren’t bad reviews of Legends Arceus. For example, a critic from IGN rated it 7/10. This score seemed to be lowered by them not liking the battle system and some areas feeling empty to them. So obviously there are areas of the game that can be better. What are your thoughts on the game so far?

Tips and Tricks on Catching Shiny Pokemon in Legends Arceus

Pokemon Legends Arceus is finally out now! Along with all of the new features that we’re exploring, shiny hunting has changed quite a bit from the previous games. We put together an early guide on finding and catching shiny Pokemon. This will be updated as more information is found!

How to find Shiny Pokemon

Shiny Pokemon in Legends Arceus are visible from the overworld. This means you don’t have to enter battle or engage with a Pokemon at all to tell if it’s shiny or not. Although this makes it less tedious to hunt shinys, it doesn’t make it any easier. Shiny Pokemon can run away from you while you try to catch it. That’s why it’s good to learn how to spot shiny Pokemon so you know what you’re looking for and what to do when you see one. Here is a shiny hunting guide and some great tips and tricks to help you hunt and catch shiny Pokemon around Hisui!

  • Save the game

While shiny hunting, make sure to turn auto save off and when you see a shiny Pokemon, save your game! This is very important if you want to increase your odds of catching the shiny. If you fail to catch it or it runs away, you can simply load your saved game and the shiny will be back. For some people this may feel like you’re cheesing or cheating the game but with how rare shiny Pokemon are, we don’t blame anyone for doing this. Go get those shinies!

  • Listen for sound cues

Always have your sound turned up. This might be the easiest indicator to recognize that a shiny is nearby because you don’t have to actively look around. While you’re running around Hisui, listen for a slight “bling” sound. This distinct sound plays as if you’ve discovered something and even when you’re not hunting shinys, it’s hard to miss. You can hear this sound cue in PhillyBeatzU’s video below.

  • Look for different colors and sparkles

This one sounds obvious but we don’t see shinys a lot so you might not recognize it. Sometimes you can pass right by one without even noticing. Always look for Pokemon that look a different color than they normally are. Some shinys are gold, green, pink, or just a slightly different color than what they normally are. This variety of differences between shinies makes them hard to identify sometimes, so another thing to look for are sparkles! When a shiny first spawns, gold stars and sparkles will appear around them. This animation only lasts a second so if you hear a sound cue, quickly look around.

How to Increase Shiny Odds

There are four factors that determine your odds of catching a shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus. All of these things increase your chances of finding and catching a shiny Pokemon in the wild.

  • Pokedex Research Level 10 (+1)
  • Pokedex Research Perfect (+2)
  • Shiny Charm (+3)
  • Mass Outbreak (+25)

Ultimate Mass Outbreak Method

Talking to Ress, in Jubilife Village, will point you towards Mass Outbreak locations. These locations will have a cluster of the same Pokemon. You can go to these Mass Outbreak locations and find 4 of the same Pokemon. The best part about this is when you catch one, another will spawn until the outbreak is over. Going to these mass outbreak locations will increase your odds of getting a shiny Pokemon and you may get lucky and find one. This is a great way to hunt shinies because it spawns multiple of the same Pokemon in a small location. PhillyBeatzU explains this method best in this YouTube video below!

Pros and Cons of Ebay’s New Mandatory Authentication for Pokemon Cards

With the news of certain YouTube stars purchasing fake Pokemon cards for millions of dollars, Ebay is taking a stand against scam artists in the trading card category. Ebay officially announced that for listings sold over $750+, a free card authentication service is not only offered but required. This means the trading card will be sent to an authenticator before being delivered to the customer or buyer. The authenticator will examine the card, make sure it’s authentic and proceed to protect it in a slab for safer shipping and display. Though many collectors would probably prefer a rated slab such as PSA, these Ebay branded displays still look pretty nice. The good thing is, it’s NOT required to have this done if the card has already been rated by a creditable grading companies such as PSA or BGS.

The Good

The most important part of this is it will ultimately protect people from losing a lot of money to scammers that are selling fake products such as fake Pokemon cards. Ebay is a website that many people stay away from because they’re afraid of scams so it’s good to see the website take these things more seriously. Another thing Ebay did right is this entire authentication process is free! Getting a card over $750 authenticated by their service is all paid for by Ebay, the seller or buyer doesn’t have to pay a dime.

The Bad

On the flip side, many collectors have pointed out that scams that happen within Pokemon card listings and trading card transactions in general are small purchases. Most of these purchases are less than $750 because scammers know the people buying expensive cards are usually collectors that know what to look for and won’t fall for fake cards. In the end, all of these scams below the $750 price figure will go unnoticed. For this reason, make sure if you’re a victim to a Pokemon card scam to report it and attempt to get your money back. Also check out these scams you should watch out for when buying Pokemon cards!

Pokemon Legends Arceus Trailer Confirms Starter Evolutions and More Secrets!

The release of Pokemon Legends Arceus is just a couple days away and the Pokemon Channel is still releasing new trailers and information about the game that they’ve been keeping secret. The newest trailer reveals that the rumors about new Hisuian forms of each starter Pokemon’s evolution were correct! There will be new Hisuian evolution forms for Decidueye, Samurott, and Typhlosion. What these Pokemon look like is still shrouded in mystery, though. But we are able to see their silhouettes on the official website now! We’ll have to play the game to find out further details on these Pokemon when it releases. This is huge for fans and may even affect which starter they choose when playing since these new evolutions will change typing and team balancing.

Secrets & Easter Eggs

Many fans are happily surprised we’ve been shown a glimpse of new Hisuian Pokemon but there are a lot of details in this new trailer that are easily overlooked!

Unown Message

At 50 seconds in the trailer we see a strange looking stone door opening with symbols on it. Immediately after, we’re shown a bunch of Unown symbols. These symbols at first glance aren’t legible but can be translated. Each Unown Pokemon represents a letter or symbol. This message that we’re shown is translated to “Touch other lives to create”. We’re not exactly sure what this message means yet but this seems like it’s apart of a puzzle within the game. This means we should come across secrets and puzzles scattered around Hisui as we play Pokemon Legends Arceus once it comes out.

Portal Over Mount Coronet

Another detail many people have missed is 53 seconds into the trailer we see some type of dark, swirling portal over the top of the mountain, also known as Mount Coronet, with lightning. We see something similar again at the end of the trailer, this time it’s purple. Although, we haven’t seen this in any other trailers, It seems like this portal will play a big role in the story of the game as it’s becoming a primary focus closer to release. This could be apart of the reason why Pokemon across Hisui are becoming frenzied. What are your thoughts on these unexplained details?

What Are Base Camps In Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Pokemon Legends Arceus right around the corner PokePatch is still researching and covering new features in the game without any leaks. Another feature we’ve learned about through official sources are base camps. Also known as Surveying Outposts, base camps are useful locations around Hisui that act as a safepoint or checkpoint between areas and missions.

What Are Base Camps Used For?

There are several uses for Base Camps, the main one being a safe place for you and your Pokemon to be. It’s good to find nearby base camps before or after missions and survey work to ready up or cooldown.

Heal Your Pokemon

Base camps allow your Pokemon to rest, healing them in the process. Since Pokemon Centers don’t seem to be present in Pokemon Legends Arceus or the Hisui region, this will be a prominent way of healing up your party before and after battles.

Change Time of Day

At a base camp you also have the option to rest, advancing the time of day and changing it to morning, afternoon, or night. This new feature can be used to hunt down Pokemon that spawn at certain times of the day or for missions and events that require a specific time of day as well.

Crafting Items

Base camps are also fitted with a workbench for crafting. This is useful for creating Pokeballs and other items to help you in battle. Make sure to stock up on these items at base camps before you head out on your missions.

Official Pokemon Vending Machines Are Being Stocked With Rare TCG Products

The Pokemon TCG continues to see growth into 2022 with more and more people buying Pokemon cards across the world. In this market, with the demand so high, it’s difficult to find product on shelves at retail stores. Luckily, there’s another place you can search and look forward to if you live in the US. In certain states, the Pokemon Company is putting official vending machines specifically for Pokemon cards and TCG products. This also prevents theft as we’ve seen many open boxes on retail shelves.

Pokemon TCG Vending Machine Locations

The three states these vending machine kiosks are in right now are Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. You can find the full list of the specific locations on the official Pokemon Center website here.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Hard To Find Products

An interesting thing about these vending machines is they’re often found with TCG products that aren’t found on shelves anymore. For example Hidden Fates ETBs (Elite Trainer Boxes) have been found at multiple vending machine locations the past couple months. As many fans know, Hidden Fates is a TCG set from 2019 and is no longer being printed as far as we know. Regardless, it’s hard to find these products at MSRP or retail price but with these vending machines we can. As seen in the tweet above, you can see multiple Hidden Fates ETBs and Celebrations ETBs in one machine which can both be hard to find elsewhere. Another Twitter user claims they bought 6 Hidden Fates ETBs from a single kiosk location, so it seems there’s no limit to how many products you can buy from these vending machines. With this in mind, it’s first come first serve so don’t be surprised if some products are sold out and try to always leave some for others.

What Are Pastures? Pokemon Legends Arceus New Storage System

Pokemon Legends Arceus comes out in just a few short days and there are still a lot of features PokePatch hasn’t covered yet. We’ll be explaining in depth a bunch of new features as we all explore the Hisui region when the game comes out. But one feature we’ve been able to get more information about through official sources are Pokemon Pastures in Legends Arceus.

What are Pastures?

Simply put, the Pasture is the new Pokemon storage system in Legends Arceus. It seems like this new Pokemon game is doing away with boxes. Pokemon boxes are in most Pokemon games and contain all Pokemon that you’ve caught but aren’t currently using in your party. In Legends Arceus you won’t have a box or PC to carry additional Pokemon. This means you’ll only be able to bring with you the 6 Pokemon that are in your party.

How do Pastures work?

Upon catching a Pokemon you will probably have the option to either put it directly in your party or sending it to the pasture. Similar to how boxes and PCs worked in previous games. Once you send a Pokemon to the pasture, you won’t be able to access it until you physically travel there. In recent Pokemon games you’ve been able to access your Pokemon storage or PC from anywhere with a feature called box link, this is no longer the case as the Hisui region takes place in a time before this technology exsisted. The official Legends Arceus website hints that certain missions require different types of Pokemon. For this reason you’ll need to choose your party wisely and leave the rest of your Pokemon in the pasture. This feature change makes missions more strategic and challenging.

Where is the Pasture?

Like many other facilities, you’ll find the pastures at the main hub of Jubilife Village. Here you’ll be able to visually see Pokemon you’ve sent to the pasture, roaming and grazing the land. Switch out Pokemon in your pasture with ones in your party while your here before you go out to do more missions. You can also access your Pokemon storage or pastures at camps located throughout Hisui that you’ve helped set up.

Expand Pastures in Legends Arceus

You can get more pastures just simply by catching more Pokemon. When your pasture is almost full, there will be more added. There is a cap to this, though. The maximum amount of pastures you can unlock is 29. Even though there is a max amount of pastures you can unlock, 29 is a lot of space and you shouldn’t have to worry about running out of space in your pasture for a long time.

How Legends Arceus Got Pokemon Scaling Right

The Pokemon Legends Arceus release day is just a week away and although some shipments are being delayed, the hype is only getting bigger for this new game! New game mechanics and theories are the main discussion with this title but some features are more subtle than others. One feature that’s been improved on is Pokemon scaling. Pokemon scaling is the size of a Pokemon in game. Obviously, some Pokemon should look bigger than others because they are. For example, a Dialga should be larger than a Pikachu. This is something Legends Arceus seems to have paid attention to.

Correct Pokemon Scaling in Legends Arceus

Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus are scaled really well compared to many other games. Just last year, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl (BDSP) were getting criticism for having weirdly sized Pokemon. This game made gigantic Pokemon such as Giratina and Onyx be just as tall as the player or any other Pokemon, which made some battles look comical. Battles in Pokemon Legends Arceus are seamless, meaning a Pokemon’s size doesn’t change when entering a battle, which happened with previous games. Battles happen within the overworld now, and with new game mechanics including your trainer in the battle, a Pokemon’s size even more important. During battles you’ll clearly see how large Alpha and Noble Pokemon are when you’re dodging their attacks. And regular battles feel more immersive when a Gyrados isn’t the same size as a Magikarp.

Sword and Shield Pokemon Scaling

In previous games such as Sword and Shield, progress was made with scaling but there were still issues. Pokemon in the over world were scaled correctly for the most part but the problems began when you start a battle. In Sword and Shield battles, all Pokemon became scaled to the same size except for Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon. This gave the perspective of how large Dynamax Pokemon were but makes every other situation with large Pokemon look a little awkward. Sometimes it would even make big Pokemon smaller than your trainer.
