Theories for Legendary Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries

The first official trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been out for more than a month now. Not much was shown in the initial trailer but that doesn’t stop fans from digging deep into the information that we have. There are still theories being made about the game daily even a month later. One of the most discussed topics is what will the legendaries look like in Gen 9? Here’s what we know so far.

Pokemon Scarlet Legendary Theory

Scarlet is associated with infrared. With this in mind, it’s likely the Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet will have something to do with infrared light. Snakes are well known for being able to see in infrared light and would make for a great legendary.

Pokemon Violet Legendary Theory

Violet has been associated with ultraviolet. Again, this means we’ll likely see a Legendary Pokemon that has something to do with ultraviolet light. A common theory has been that Violet’s legendary Pokemon will be a spider because some spiders glow under UV light. We also see some type of spider web symbol in the trailer which could be a hint to a legendary Pokemon or something else. Though, this is a popular theory there are others as well. A great theory is that the Pokemon Violet Legendary will be a cat. This is because it’s believed that cats can see in the ultraviolet light spectrum. This is the same light that gives cats the ability to see in the dark.

Scarlet and Violet Hidden Eyes in Trailer

The most convincing piece of evidence towards these theories is a small detail that was recently noticed in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer and was reported by SoulSilverArt on Twitter. At the very end of the trailer, while the logos are being shown a light flashes over the logo, creating a lens flare. Inside this lens flare you can clearly see a pair of eyes. It looks a little too perfect to be a coincidence. These eyes look like cat eyes or maybe reptilian. This perfectly fits with the predictions that the legendries could be a snake or a cat. Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see but maybe there will be more clues and hints we find soon!

All Easter Eggs in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was announced as the 9th Generation Pokemon game coming to switch. Along with this announcement came a trailer detailing a few things we can expect in this upcoming game but most of the information was hidden and left for fans to find out for themselves. This trailer is jam packed with so many hints and hidden details that some are still being discovered more than a month later. Here are some secrets you may have missed in the new trailer.

Hidden Eyes

At the end of the trailer, when the logos are displayed you can faintly see two eyes. Upon closer inspection, it seems the two eyes are different from one another. They also don’t look human at all. They both look more like reptilian eyes or even cat-like than human. This suggests that these eyes belong to new Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. Perhaps we’ll find that these eyes are hints to the box legendaries. There’s a theory going around that the Legendary Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet will either be able to see in infrared or ultraviolet light. This leaves options like snakes and cats on the table, which matches these eyes perfectly.

Spain Map

One of the first things noticed by fans when the trailer came out was the map on the wall. There’s clearly a map of Spain in the trailer and most of the decor we see in game footage looks Spanish as well. This leads us to believe the Gen 9 region takes place in Spain.

Spider Logo

In the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer we also see a spider symbol draped over a piece of furniture. This could represent opposing new team or a new Pokemon. A new team is always introduced in mainline Pokemon games and serves to be the main enemy of the game. If it represents or hints at a new Pokemon, it could be a new legendary since spiders have a connection to UV light.

Pokemon Center

Poke Centers have also been noticed in the new trailer but not where we would expect them. Pokemon centers are used to heal up your Pokemon, trade items, etc. But these are usually found in the middle of towns. In Scarlet and Violet we can see Poke Centers that look like gas stations outside of towns. This change would allow players to rest their Pokemon quickly without going into a town or village like in Pokemon Legends Arceus. This is one of many features from Pokemon Legends Arceus players want to see stick around.

Where Vivid Voltage ETBs Are Getting Restocked

Vivid Voltage is an amazing set in the Pokemon TCG. It includes unique amazing rares and the ultimate VMAX Pikachu that everyone wants. You can find single booster packs in stock pretty often but the last time we saw Vivid Voltage Elite Trainer Boxes on shelves was more than a year ago now. With Scarlet and Violet base set likely coming out next year, this may be the last time we see them restocked. Luckily there should be plenty to go around, you just have to catch them while they’re here! Here’s where Vivid Voltage ETBs may be restocked as of April 2022.

Where To Buy Vivid Voltage ETBs

A lot of people are reporting on Twitter that they’re finding several Vivid Voltage ETBs in Walmart. The bad thing about this is their website is rarely up to date with stock on Pokemon cards. If you want to check, you’ll have to drive to your local Walmart and see if they have them in stock.

Another great option is GameStop. They may get less allocation than Walmart, though. Luckily, their website is usually up to date and you can check stock updates online, without driving to the store. By using GameStop, you also will be supporting PokePatch as we make commission on qualifying purchases. Thank you for helping our website stay up!

Top 300 Entries Revealed in Pokemon Illustration Contest 2022

Near the end of last year, The Pokemon Company announced they were hosting a contest for fans to submit their own illustrations of Pokemon. The winner of this competition will have their art put onto a Pokemon card and a $5,000 cash prize. Even if you don’t make first place, the top 15 drawings will also be rewarded in various ways. Since then, the contest deadline has ended and judges have started the process of choosing who should win. A total of 10,830 entries were submitted. The judges have now narrowed these entries down to their top 300 picks. With the amount of entries they’ve had to go through, it took them a while to choose their favorites and it probably wasn’t an easy task. Choosing an ultimate winner out of these 300 amazing pieces of art is almost impossible with how unique each illustration looks but it must be done. With this in mind, it might take a while for the judges to come to an agreement on a single winner.

Here are some of my personal favorites out of the bunch.

Entry by Melissa Pierce
Entry by UMiUSHi
Entry by RossDraws

These pieces alone are unique and look amazing but there are dozens of stunning looking entries by several artists. I recommend taking a look at the top 300 entries just to see the creative energy put into these Pokemon and what could be everyone’s next chase card! Whos entry is your favorite?

Free Promo Card Coming To GameStop For Astral Radiance

Gamestop tylphosion

A new GameStop exclusive promo card will be coming on May 27th which is also the release date for the Astral Radiance set. This upcoming set not only includes new Hisuian Pokemon cards but also introduces new Radiant Pokemon. Radiant Pokemon cards will feature shiny Pokemon with special abilities in the TCG. According to PokeBeach, the promo card will likely look like the Hisuian Typhlosion card from the Time Gazer and Space Juggler Japanese TCG sets.

The previous most recent GameStop promo was a Duraludon that came out with the Evolving Skies set. This featured a red GameStop stamp on the bottom right corner of the art which makes it more unique compared to other promo cards. The new Hisuian Typhlosion promo will likely have this stamp as well.

How to get a Free GameStop Promo Card

All you have to do is go to your local GameStop and make a purchase that is $15 or more of Pokemon TCG merchandise. This promotion starts May 27th, 2022. You may want to ask if they have any left before making the purchase just to be sure you can get one. We’re unsure how many they’ll have at each location or how fast each store will run out of supply.

When Will Pokemon Black and White Remake Come Out?

Pokemon fans have enjoyed a surplus of Pokemon games and content the past year with Legends Arceus, BDSP, and Unite all releasing within 12 months. After all of this, players are still left wanting more as always. We will soon be getting the new Gen 9 Pokemon game, Scarlet and Violet but nostalgia lovers still want the older games back. There has been talk about what Pokemon game will be remade next.

What Will Be The Next Pokemon Remake?

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl was the most recent game to be remade. This received mixed reviews with the art style being something players aren’t used to and certain features missing from the game. These features got added in future patches and people overall enjoyed the game but it mostly served as an introduction to Pokemon Legends Arceus. If The Pokemon Company keeps remaking Pokemon games in the order they were released, we should see the Pokemon Black and White remake release next.

When Will The Next Pokemon Remake Come Out?

There is somewhat of a pattern when it comes to release dates for Pokemon titles. Pokemon BDSP came out 2 years after Sword and Shield. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes came out 1 year after XY. The thing all of these games have in common is they came out in November. The Pokemon Black and White Remake Release Date should also be November, after the release of Scarlet and Violet. Assuming they’re saving the year 2023 for Scarlet and Violet DLC, we can expect the Pokemon Black and White remake release date to be around November of 2024. This is quite a ways away but there will be plenty of other Pokemon related content to explore until then, especially with the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games coming out. We may also get another Pokemon Legends game related to Black and White so hopefully it will be worth the wait. This is all just a theory based on past release dates but it’s the most likely outcome.

Why There Are No New Kadabra Pokemon Cards

The Pokemon TCG has been running and printing cards for decades now. New and old Pokemon appear in the newest TCG expansions but some get more love than others. One Pokemon in particular has disappeared altogether and we haven’t seen them in almost 20 years. Many people have noticed Abra’s evolution, Kadabra is no longer on Pokemon cards and rarely shown anywhere else. When was the last Kadabra Card and why don’t we see this particular Pokemon in the TCG anymore?

Why are there no Kadabra cards?

The story starts about 20 years ago with a magician named Uri Geller. This illusionist is known for bending spoons during performances. The Pokemon, Kadabra, is arguably based on this public personality. According to BBC, Geller sued Nintendo in 2000 over the use of their image on a Pokemon card. It seems that because of this lawsuit, Kadabra could not be present on any more Pokemon cards after 2003. The last Kadabra card that was ever printed came out in the Skyridge set from 2003. That makes it 19 years since we’ve seen a new Kadabra card. Uri Geller has since publicly apologized on Twitter for banning Kadabra from appearing on cards and said they have released the ban. Though they have released the ban, it’s up to Nintendo and The Pokemon Company to decide if they want to bring Kadabra back. Will this almost 2 decade streak end soon?

Is Kadabra Coming Back Soon?

This all began the question, will we see new Kadabra cards in the future or is this Pokemon gone forever? Well, Kadabra has been absent in more than just the Pokemon TCG. In the Pokemon anime series Kadabra also hasn’t appeared in more than 16 years until just last year. They brought back this dearly missed Pokemon and brought it to life in the Pokemon Evolutions anime. The official Pokemon twitter account also recently tweeted a gif of Kadabra, possibly hinting they have more future plans to keep them around. Hopefully we’ll soon see a new Kadrabra Pokemon card in an upcoming Sword and Shield set. If not, it’s very likely we’ll see a Kadrabra card in a Scarlet and Violet expansion.

Best Pokemon Sun and Moon Booster Packs To Buy

Top 5 Sun and Moon TCG Sets

With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet right around the corner, fans are looking at the past sets and wondering what to buy while they still can. Most people are looking at Sword and Shield sets but it’s better to look at Sun and Moon. Most, if not all, Sun & Moon TCG sets will likely stop being reprinted once Gen 9 starts. For this reason all Sun and Moon sets are expected to raise in price over the years and right now might be the best time to get them if you haven’t already. Here are the best Sun and Moon sets to buy!

1. Cosmic Eclipse

This set includes some amazing looking tag team cards and trainer gallery art. The art in this set is on another level! With it being released near the end of the Sun and Moon generation, it’s affordable. At the same time, with it being in such high demand, it’s still more expensive than others on this list. Expect the price for Cosmic Eclipse packs to fluctuate a lot since more packs are surfacing in certain products but people are rushing to buy them up as fast as possible.

  • ~$11 per booster pack

2. Burning Shadows

Sun and Moon Burning Shadows booster pack

Burning Shadows deserves a place on this list just because of the Charizard GX and Gardevoir GX cards in the set. These chase cards were very popular from day 1 and we continue to see fans trying to open this set because of these chase cards. This set has several other colorful full art cards but the set list is a little small.

  • ~$9 per booster pack

3. Team Up

Sun and Moon team up booster pack

Team Up is the set that introduced Tag Team Pokemon cards, which are very unique. These cards feature two Pokemon on the same card. These types of cards are a hit or miss for most fans. If it’s a hit for you, this set is a must have! It’s well known for it’s Latios & Latias tag team cards but there are many others in this set with amazing Tag Team art.

~$20 per booster pack

4. Guardians Rising

Sun and Moon guardians rising booster pack

This set has a good variety of full art cards for Pokemon that don’t get enough love such as Wishiwashi and Tapu Lele. The most popular cards in Guardians Rising are the multiple Alolan Ninetales and Sylveon cards. If you like either of those Pokemon, this is definetly a set to look into.

  • ~$9 per booster pack

5. Sun and Moon Base Set

Sun and Moon base set booster pack

This was the first Sun and Moon TCG set to release. The set list may be small but there are great cards to pull! The colors on the variety of GX cards in this set make them stand out. While they’re not super rare or expensive, if you’re looking for a fun set to open while not breaking the bank this is the set to go for!

  • ~$4 per booster pack

Bonus: Hidden Fates

Hidden Fates booster pack

Hidden Fates isn’t technically apart of the Sun and Moon expansions list. Hidden Fates was a stand alone special set but it came out during the Sun and Moon era. It also happens to be one of the most popular sets during that time. For that reason alone, it deserves a place on this list. If you’re looking to buy booster packs or cards from the Sun and Moon generation, Hidden Fates is a great option. It includes TONS of Shiny Pokemon GX cards that we can’t get enough of. Shiny Pokemon cards don’t come by often so these are good to buy while the price is still low.

  • ~$15 per booster pack

All Pokemon Snap Cards Art & What They’re Worth

What Are Pokemon Snap Cards?

Pokemon Snap Cards come from the original Pokemon Snap game for the Nintendo 64. In this game your job was to explore and take pictures of Pokemon on your journey. To promote the game in 1999, there were 2 official competitions held. The top 5 best pictures of Pokemon taken by fans in the game would have there pictures used as art for Pokemon cards. Since there were two of these competitions a total of 10 different variations of these cards exist as far as we know. But some have different rarity and value. Here’s a list of all Pokemon Snap cards.

How Rare Are Pokemon Snap Cards?

The reason these cards are so rare is there were only 20 of each card printed in the first competition and 15 copies for the second competition. These cards were only given to the winners and no one else. The winners didn’t receive one of each card but 20 or 15 copies of their own cards. This makes them even more rare with some of them not being in circulation at all. It’s said that some of these will never see the light of day but the ones that have resurfaced are going for a lot of money. One of the Magikarp cards recently sold for over $130,000!

This is the most common and cheapest Pokemon Snap card of them all. The Japanese Snap Pikachu card was used as a Black Star Promo that came with Volume 1 of Pokémon Card Trainers magazine in 1999. The English version came out in 2001 and was used as a promo card in the Pokemon League. These are the most accessible because they were plenty printed as a promotion and given to many players around the world and can be bought on TCGPlayer.com!

  • Worth: ~$30+

Pokemon Snap Card Charmander

  • Worth: ~$100,000

Pokemon Snap Bulbasaur Card

Pokemon Snap Card Gyrados

The evolution of Magikarp, Gyrados has the same amount of copies as there were 20 printed. This one is a little special because a large YouTuber known as MaxMoeFoe owns one. They got theirs graded which is very hard to do. Grading services have had a hard time authenticating these cards in the past because of the lack of information on them.

Best Grading Service for Pokemon Cards

Best Pokemon Card Grading Service

More and more collectors are sending their cards to get graded by different companies. It’s important to pick a trustworthy grading service so a potential buyer knows that the card is truly authenticated and graded. Here, we’ll compare some of the top grading services for Pokemon cards. This information will help you when choosing which grading service is better. Each of these services have their pros and cons but which grading service is best for Pokemon cards?

PSA Grading

PSA graded slab

PSA is arguably the most popular grading service for collectables such as Pokemon cards. This has become the standard but there are still some things you should know before sending your cards to get graded. For one PSA is of of the more expensive grading services compared to the others on this list. The regular price for getting a card graded by PSA is $100 per card as of 2/26/22. You can get a cheaper deal at $50 per card if you join their PSA Collectors Club. The label has a simple, clean look and they only grade in whole numbers so you can either get a PSA 9 or PSA 10 but not a 9.5. If you have a very valuable card, the $100 price tag shouldn’t be an issue for this service and it becomes easily a good option but if you’re looking to grade a cheap card, you might want to look at cheaper options.

CGC Grading

CGC is known for being a little harsh when grading cards so they rarely give 10/10 grades. This makes a CGC 10 sometimes more valuable than a PSA 10 but this mostly depends on what the buyer believes is more valuable. The standard price for grading a card from CGC is $35 per card as of 3/26/22 making it a very affordable and great option for grading Pokemon cards.

BGS Grading

Right now BGS is the cheapest service on this list as standard grading from BGS with no subgrades runs $30 per card as of 3/26/22. Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean they’re not credible, though. BGS also has a sub grading service and is known for inspecting small details and making sure the cards are high quality. They also have nice looking labels and half grades so it’s possible to get a BGS 9.5.
